We knew the weather was coming and today it definitely arrived. Each day we see our own Blizzard that we love dearly, well today we saw the meteorological version.
It was an easy decision when we looked out the window whilst sitting at the breakfast table and could barely make out the mountains a matter of metres away.
So plan B had already been made and kicked into gear. Part of the package when we arrived at the hotel was the free use of the leisure centre opposite. There was a full size swimming pool and a full size ice rink.
We kitted ourselves our for a polar expedition and trudged the 40m through the snow to the leisure centre that was just over the road. Unusually for us we arrived a little early so headed up to the cafe which we found had a games room. We had a few games of air hockey and table football before the boys spotted you could get bubble gum from a dispenser for 20 cents. This led to a bubble blowing lesson and some interesting face contortions.

Then it was time to skate. To start with we had the ice to ourselves and were able to bobble and stumble in relative quiet. The boys had been with scouts a few weeks earlier and so had retained some of that experience. Amy had done a bit more ice skating as a child and it quickly came back to her. She glided off across the ice whilst the boys and I continued to cling to the side.

After a little while the similarities with skiing meant that we were all lapping the rink. Amy had begun to do cross overs on the turns and also had a little session of going backwards. The boys had found balance aids and were now whizzing around the rink with added confidence. These also doubled as small chairs and so I was able to push them around as the giggled with delight.

The boys only had a couple of minor falls and I had a couple of miraculous saves whist Amy breezed around looking very pleased with herself!!
After an hours skating we headed for the swimming pool and spent another hour swimming up and down whilst the boys tried to touch the bottom and complete multiple somersaults.
Lunch was calling and the Blizzard had subsided for a short time so we headed over to a Pizzeria. There was one little boy who was very happy about that. We shared a couple of pizzas with Callan demolishing all of his.

The Blizzard is back in full swing now. We’ve headed back to the hotel for a steady afternoon as the snow continues to fall. Less is forecast tomorrow so visibility should be better and with the amount of new snow it should be back to great skiing.
