This is the first time we’ve done a big trip like this and it not be a package holiday. We said if it goes well then this might be the way to ski for a while. Well, from London to Boston it could not have gone more seamlessly.
Apart from the fact I’m writing this at 4am and I’ve been awake two hours…..
The boys are of an age now where long flights aren’t the panic they’d have been a few years ago. A small mountain of tech and the excitement of a touch screen in the back of the seat in front of you meant that 7 hours passed pretty quickly. Callan wouldn’t touch any of the food provided by the airline though Harrison found it quite tasty. With a couple of films, some games and Harrison beating me 4 game to 3 at noughts and crosses the flight was pretty good.
Arriving in Boston we passed through the airport fairly smoothly. I’m yet to understand how when you check all your bags at the same time they managed to evenly space them across the entire repatriation time. It takes skill and experience no doubt.
After persuading the boys that skipping around by the armed customs officials was probably not a good idea we attached ourselves to the airport wifi and called an Uber. 15 minutes later we were at our hotel with Amy having already spotted a nearby Starbucks.
The room is huge, two double beds and even with an Apple Store’s worth of tech spread around there is still space to walk… We’re right in the centre of Boston which is great. There’s a shopping mall and a supermarket virtually next door and even braving the cold (it was -2 when we landed) it was really simple to get some drink and snacks.
We’re about to start planning our two days exploring the city. We haven’t seen it in the light yet but it was certainly spectacular from the air at night. Callan had remarked there were so many lights it made it look like Christmas. He doesn’t know yet but he’s going to be spending his Christmas money on a new iPad this morning so he’ll be doubly happy…
