Last day skiing today and thankfully the weather was good. Much warmer than it has been over the last few days with sun and snow showers passing by in a brisk wind.

We’d planned on heading out further today to a new part of the mountain and exploring some new runs. Although it was a struggle to get the boys out of bed and then up the mountain once they felt the freshly bashed piste under their skis they were off and sliding.

We did a lot more red runs today that gave us more direct routes between lifts and navigated our way out to Grau Roig, another mountain restaurant and gathering place that was almost at Pas De La Casa.

Sadly the filming went awry but we did get some good photographs and stopped for another panoramic picture on the way.

After a refuel of coffee and a doughnut we began to head back thinking that would be the end.

Picking a blue run called Solanella that we’d done the day before and knew we liked, we flashed across the snow.. Unfortunately, Callan aimed for the wrong lift which meant he dropped too low and I had to descend to drag him back to the right level.

In the meantime, Amy and Harrison had carried on to the chair lift. Sadly, the not the chairlift that Callan and I had gone to. No matter, the radios meant we could stay in touch and agree to ascend and work out how to get back together.

As both pairs crested their respective lifts we radioed each other to announce our arrival. It was at this point Callan and I heard a shriek on the radio.

On the other crest, Amy and Harrison had been standing still and examining the map. An incompetent snow boarder had lost control and taken Amy out causing her to test her long lost ability to do the splits.

Harrison sprang to the rescue. His Mum had twisted her knee and needed help with Callan and I a mountain away. We spoke over the radio and discussed the need for a stretcher which was declined. He helped her back to her feet and guided her safely  to the lift. After discussing with me, Callan and I agreed to wait where we were for Amy and Harrison to join us.

With time to kill, Callan and I played noughts and crosses in the snow as well as drawing pictures for the other one to guess. Harrison and his casualty (slight exaggeration) joined us a short while later (here they are getting off the lift) and we steadily made our way back to the top of the Canillo chair lift.

Amy decided it was best she descend on the lift rather than risking aggravating her knee. She and I approached the staff who insisted on calling a medic before she could board. After being assessed (this mainly involved just saying, can I just go on the lift please) the boys and I descended the final run to meet Amy at the top of the Gondola.

As we stood and waited I could hear the crackle of the radio as she came back into range whilst chatting to her medic.

We were reunited and descended on the Gondola back to the town.

For those of you reading this before we chat, Amy is fine… We’re sitting in the bar eating a sandwich and drinking liqueur coffee. More precautionary than anything else.

Skiing is now done. Hire skis returned and at the moment we’re just putting off packing which is to come soon.

I think we’re all tired from our weeks exploits and ready to come home. Already I know we will miss the skiing tomorrow and be keen to come again soon (or at least those of us not limping a little….)
