Last Day in New York

Sadly it’s the last day and although it feels a little like killing time until we go the airport, we still have so much we want to do.

Although we’d done Top of the Rock and seen the City from above, for me, it wouldn’t be right not to go up the Empire State Building.

We got up early, packed up and headed down there for opening time. The weather had returned and the sun shone as we joined the already lengthy queue. There was the option to go to the 80th floor and then outside on the 86th. But we had to go to the top. We took the secondary lift up to the 102nd floor, a quarter of a mile above the ground. It was there that all the queuing was worth it. The return view of the Rockefeller building but also the fresh clear morning meant you could see way out across the bay and back to New Jersey.

As we descended, the gift shop was the best so far and most of our pressies were bought in this spot.

One of Amys wishlist next – the Flatiron Building, and the Fuji Wonder Shop at the base.

Next we went for breakfast and once again found an America Diner (had to be done). I went for the eggs benedict as another tradition I needed to experience and this time Amy went for the pancakes. That food was delicious and set us up for the rest of the day.

From there we went onto the High Line, a disused elevated rail way that had been converted into a nature reserve. In the warmth of the sun the walk was pleasant and well needed to begin to shift that enormous breakfast.

After another hop through Starbucks we moved back towards Central Park. Stopping just short we hired two bikes and went for a ride. It was strangely surreal as we entered the park in a mass of activity. Joined by walkers, runners, cyclists, rickshaws and horse drawn carts we darted through the chaos whilst enjoying New York’s spring best.

It was a much longer than expected ride around the circumference of the park so we stopped for drinks and to off load some of our America shrapnel on a roadside drinks seller, much to his disgust.

After originally planning two laps we settled for one and cruised back to our bike shop before our saddle sore became too unbearable.

As we drifted back towards the hotel for the final time it was time to reflect on what had been a hectic but fantastic trip. So much to see, so much more to do. I feel as though we gave New York a great effort and were rewarded with memories those I’d long seen in films. It was a strangely familiar City with so much mirrored at home and one I would really love to go back to again.

Truck accidents are different from a typical passenger vehicle crash, and not just because of the extremely serious injuries they can cause. Unlike a typical car accident case where one driver is held at fault for the crash, truck accident claims can include a number of liable parties ─ from the owner of the truck, to the company that maintains it, to the company that loaded the truck’s cargo, to a driver. If you have been injured in this type of crash, you need an experienced St. Louis Missouri truck accident lawyer on your side who understands the industry and how these types of cases work.
